5 Storylines to Follow as Chiefs Defend Their Unbeaten Streak Against Charges

The Kansas City Chiefs are marching into Week 6 and are looking absolutely Unstoppable. They have put their flawless undefeated streak on the line against  A dangerous Los Angeles Chargers Squad Who are hungry for a signature upset. This is not just another divisional matchup; it's an all-out AFC West battle.  With Patrick Mahomes working his late-game magic on Jim Harbaugh’s gritty Chargers looking to smash the kingdom,  It's a high-stakes game that could not get any bigger.

You can expect heavy hits, tactical matches, and pure gridiron Hollywood-level drama. Kansas City are 4-0 coming off their bye week, but there are a lot of things to clean up even now. The Chargers are 0-5 and are desperate for their first win, a pretty sluggish position they are in, to be honest. But here are 5 storylines to follow that might make you think a little more about Chargers vs. Chiefs and whether the Chargers are that bad at all.

1. The Chargers are not as bad as their record shows

The Chargers are 0-5 and have had a pretty messy start to the season this year. Head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel apparently are not on the same page.  Even then, the Chargers have always been competitive against good teams.  The Chargers had led 4-2 Denver Broncos in the 4th quarter and also held a second-half lead against the Buffalo Bills on the road.

Even their defence has been effective on 3rd down and has shown an ability to force turnovers.

2. Can the Chiefs turn the stress into sacks?

The Kansas City Chiefs have only three sacks through four games.  Interestingly, it's a pretty low number for a defence featuring defensive tackle Chris Jones and defensive end  George Karlaftis.

The Chiefs’ front seven has been getting pressure on the QBs, though. The pass rush in the second half was a very important victory in Las Vegas. Steve Spagnuolo,  who is the defensive coordinator, said on Thursday that he thinks the difference is half a second or a faster move. On the other hand, Herbert has already taken 17 sacks this season.

3. Kenneth Walker III has been one of the best Running Backs in the NFL

Running Back Kenneth Walker III has rushed for 537 yards through four games, and averaged more than six yards per carry. His best performance came against the Raiders, when he ran for 177 yards and two touchdowns, including a 76-yard run.

The LA Chargers have a defense that is good against the run, so this could be one of Walker’s tougher matchups despite what the other team’s records say.

4. Surviving the Wide Receiver Injury Drama

Kansas City is facing critical offensive absences, with Tyquan Thornton landing on injured reserve and Rashee Rice sidelined by a nagging injury. This puts massive pressure on rookie speedster Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals, and newly re-signed veteran Justin Watson to step up and catch Mahomes' passes.

5. The Return of Left Tackle Josh Simmons

For the first time this season, starting left tackle Josh Simmons returned to the practice field to recover from a back injury. While backup rookie Kahlil Benson won Rookie of the Month honors for his stellar protection, stabilizing the blindside remains crucial for Patrick Mahomes' health.
