"I Could Really Care Less"- Brock Purdy Shows Zero Interest In Smashing Personal NFL Records
In the world of modern sports, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy proves that some traditions never go out of style.
He is on the verge of officially claiming the highest career passer rating in NFL history. The former "Mr. Irrelevant” recently shut down the hype with a bold, old-school response. Rather than individual glory or tracking his box score, he bluntly stated that he "could really care less" about personal milestones.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy achieved a career passer rating of 105.4. He is going to enter Monday night's game against the Washington Commanders with 1,495 career passing attempts, just five short of the 1,500 attempts needed to qualify for the NFL's No. 1 all-time passer rating.
However, Purdy also spoke about what achieving the record means to him, and downplayed the significance of the same.
He said, "Obviously, when you look at your stats and are you efficient with your completions and not turning the ball over, throwing touchdowns, things like that, I guess, yeah, your rating of course is going to be good," Purdy said. "I guess it's a good thing. But at the same time, I'm not getting done with games going, 'Alright, was my rating at least 100 and something?' I [couldn't] really care less about that.”
His concern is more about how much he contributed to his teammates and if he did everything he could to help his team win.
Purdy agrees with his coach Kubiak as well
Purdy agrees with his coach and also noted that his statistical achievements are not just a personal achievement.
"I've got great coaches, a great team, dudes that help me be who I am, and I'm just grateful that I get to be the quarterback for the 49ers," Purdy added.
Kubiak even broke down Purdy’s performance against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The 49ers QB completed 65.5% of his passes for 189 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, completing with a season-low 92.5 passer rating.
He was also sacked three times after he successfully avoided a sack in each of San Francisco's first four games of the season.
"It wasn't perfect, and it was pretty ugly at times," Kubiak recalled. "But the way he played in the fourth quarter, when it mattered most—I think he threw a pick late in the third quarter.—and then, it almost felt like from then on out, Brock wasn't going to be denied.”
The head coach was very happy and said that Purdy has done well throughout his career. For an American audience exhausted of self-promoting athletes, Purdy’s team-first mentality is a refreshing reminder of what football is truly about: winning.
