NFL insider projects reality check on Eagles' situation after Week 4
A 2-2 record might sound like a minor stumble, but the Eagles' last two games suggest something more troubling. Back-to-back losses, including a fourth-quarter collapse against the Rams, have left plenty to dissect. Now one NFL insider has delivered a reality check that goes beyond the record.
Speaking on CBS Sports' YouTube channel, analyst Pete Prisco gave a blunt assessment of the Eagles' defense, questioning whether the team is getting enough from one of its key defensive pieces.
"That defense isn't very good right now and has all kinds of issues on the other side of the ball. I mean, where's Jalen Carter? I mean, that guy makes a lot of money; he's supposed to be a star defensive tackle. Where is he?"

But Prisco didn't stop there, as he further questioned during the CBS Sports NFL Week 4 recap whether the Eagles are living up to expectations.
"I mean, these guys got to pick it up on that side of the ball. I mean, this is supposed to be one of the better teams in the NFC. One of the better teams in that division, and right now they're not on either side of the ball,” Pete Prisco said.
Sunday's loss showed why people are asking questions. The Eagles led the Rams 20-10 at halftime but never scored again. In the fourth quarter, Jalen Hurts' fourth-and-goal pass from the 2-yard line fell incomplete.
Los Angeles answered with two long touchdown drives to win 24-20. It came six days after a 27-7 loss to a Bears team missing quarterback Caleb Williams.
Whether Carter and the defense can answer those questions will shape the Eagles' next stretch, but they are not the only unit under scrutiny.
Ran Carthon weighs in on Jalen Hurts' struggles against the Rams
Prisco wasn't the only analyst questioning the Eagles. Former Los Angeles Rams running back Ran Carthon gave his opinion about the Eagles.
In the aforementioned post-game breakdown, Carthon also focused on Jalen Hurts and an offense that sputtered against Los Angeles.
"I know you were without a ton of stars, but a Super Bowl-winning quarterback like Jalen Hurts, you have to be able to step up and make the guys around you better, and there were too many times today watching that game where he just didn't look comfortable or sure of where he was going with the football." Ran Carthon said.
Carthon's nod to the missing talent is fair, as Lane Johnson, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert were unavailable and Saquon Barkley left early with a hamstring injury.
Even so, the numbers explain his frustration. Hurts threw for just 93 yards and was sacked four times. After two first-half touchdown passes to Darius Cooper, he managed only 10 yards passing after halftime.
With first-year offensive coordinator Sean Mannion still shaping the offense, the Eagles get a quick chance to respond against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 11.
