"We Don't Expect Football Players To Be Test Takers"- Rapper Lil Wayne Reflects on Chargers' NFL Decline
When the rap icon Lil Wayne dropped into sports debate to talk about the Los Angeles Chargers and their struggles, he ignored the traditional ways of jargon for pure street-smart football philosophy.
He addressed the team's turbulent stretch and quarterback Justin Herbert’s situation under head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Weezy also argued that overcomplicating the rulebook completely misses the point of the gridiron. In his classic blunt style, the hip-hop legend summed up the modern obsession with analytical coaching: "We don't expect football players to be test takers. We don't want you to be a wiz kid; I want you to go out there and play football, son.”
Skip Bayless said Herbert is a mistake-maker, which rapper defended the starting quarterback. Then the rapper said, “When you involve Daniel you need a techie guy back there like a Tua.”
The star rapper definitely does not like the addition of Josh McDaniels to the staff. He said that Josh was a “mistake maker” and his offensive system was not the right fit for quarterback Josh Herbert. Lil Wayne has always been a huge NFL fan and has never been scared to call out the team or organisation when they were wrong.
Legendary Rapper lost respect for league after controversial calls on Packers versus Vikings
Back in September 2026, the rapper watched the Packers blow a 12-point lead against the Vikings as Minnesota scored the final 29 points to beat the Green Bay Packers 39-22.
The long-time Packers fan was more upset on what he saw from the officials. By the fourth quarter, Wayne had seen enough. His frustration spilled onto social media, where his reaction went well beyond complaining about a few calls and ended with a striking declaration about the NFL season.
Wayne first went after the officials directly, writing, "Refs in Minnesota game pure [expletive]."
The frustration only escalated after more fourth-quarter flags. Wayne later wrote, "Fake [expletive]. I can't respect the game when the refs can't ref the game. I'm out on the NFL this year. Wish for it to be an amazing season for all.”
What do you think about his brave and blunt opinions on the NFL?
